Adding sources manually

Learn how to add your own outreach sources individually or via CSV import

Last updated: Feb 13, 2026

In addition to discovering sources automatically, you can add your own sources to any discovery. This is useful when you've found opportunities through your own research or have an existing list of targets.

Adding a single source

To add an individual source:

  1. Go to Outreach → Sources
  2. Select the discovery you want to add sources to
  3. Click Add source
  4. Enter the URL of the page you want to target
  5. Optionally add notes about why this source is relevant
  6. Click Add

The source is added in "Discovered" status, ready for contact finding and email generation.

URL requirements

  • Must be a valid, complete URL (including https://)
  • Must not already exist in the same discovery
  • The domain is automatically extracted from the URL

Adding notes

Notes are optional but helpful for:

  • Recording why you chose this source
  • Noting any personal connection or context
  • Tracking where you found the opportunity

Notes are visible only to you and your team.

Importing sources via CSV

To add multiple sources at once, use CSV import.

Preparing your CSV file

Create a CSV file with the following structure:

Required column (one of these names):
  • url
  • source_url
  • link
  • website
Optional columns:
  • title or page_title - The page title (if known)
  • notes - Any notes about the source

Example CSV format

url,title,notes
https://example.com/best-seo-tools,Best SEO Tools 2024,Found via competitor analysis
https://blog.example.org/marketing-guide,Complete Marketing Guide,High domain authority
https://resources.site.com/tools-list,Top Tools Roundup,Already mentions competitor

Importing the file

  1. Go to Outreach → Sources
  2. Select the discovery you want to import sources into
  3. Click Import CSV
  4. Select your CSV file or drag and drop it
  5. Review the import summary
  6. Click Import

Import results

After import, you'll see:

  • Imported - Number of sources successfully added
  • Skipped - Number of rows skipped (duplicates or invalid URLs)
  • Errors - Any specific errors encountered

What gets skipped

The import automatically skips:

  • Rows without a valid URL
  • URLs that already exist in the discovery
  • Malformed or invalid URLs
  • Empty rows

Skipped rows don't affect the rest of the import.

Working with manually added sources

Manually added sources work exactly like discovered sources:

  1. Find contacts - Search for the right person to contact
  2. Generate emails - Create personalized email sequences
  3. Approve for sending - ConvertMate sends emails on your behalf

The only difference is that manually added sources show "Manual entry" or "CSV import" as their discovery reason instead of a search query.

Tips for manual sources

Research before adding - Make sure the source is actually relevant to your outreach goals before adding it. Check for existing contacts - If you already know who to contact, having their name helps during contact finding. Use notes effectively - Record any context that will help you or your team understand why this source was added. Avoid duplicates across discoveries - While the same URL can exist in different discoveries, consider whether you want to contact the same site multiple times.

Credit costs

Manually added sources follow the same credit structure as discovered sources:

  • Adding sources - Free (no credits charged)
  • Finding contacts - Included (no additional cost)
  • Generating emails - 10 credits per source
