Connecting Google Analytics 4 to ConvertMate enables AI agents to analyze your traffic patterns, understand audience behavior, and provide recommendations to improve conversion rates and content performance.
Before you start
Make sure you have:
- Google Analytics 4 property set up for your website
- Editor or Administrator access to the GA4 property
- At least 30 days of data (recommended for meaningful insights)
- An active ConvertMate account
If you're still using Universal Analytics (GA3), you'll need to create a GA4 property. Universal Analytics stopped collecting data in July 2023.
Why connect Google Analytics 4
Google Analytics 4 provides data about:

- User demographics and interests
- Device and browser usage

ConvertMate agents use this data to understand what content resonates with your audience, identify optimization opportunities, and track the impact of changes you make.

How sync works
After the initial connection:
Daily sync - ConvertMate syncs new Analytics data every 24 hours, capturing the previous day's complete data. Historical data - The first sync pulls 90 days of historical data for trend analysis. Manual sync - You can trigger a manual sync anytime from Settings → Connections. Data freshness - GA4 data is typically complete within 24-48 hours, so there's a slight delay for the most recent metrics.Using agents after connection

Available agents

No properties available to connect
If you don't see any properties after authorization:
- Verify you have at least Editor access to the GA4 property
- Check you used the correct Google account
- Ensure you created a GA4 property (not just Universal Analytics)
- GA4 property must be active and collecting data
- Try refreshing the connection page
Authorization failed
If Google authorization fails:
- Clear your browser cache and cookies
- Try in an incognito/private window
- Disable browser extensions temporarily
- Use a supported browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
- Check that pop-ups aren't blocked
Data not syncing
If connected but no data appears:
- Check that your GA4 property has data (visit Analytics to confirm)
- Verify your website tracking code is installed correctly
- Wait 24 hours after connecting for first sync to complete
- Very new properties (less than 48 hours) may not have processed data yet
- Try clicking Sync now in Settings → Connections
E-commerce data missing
If e-commerce metrics aren't appearing:
- Verify e-commerce tracking is enabled in GA4
- Check that your site is sending e-commerce events
- Ensure enhanced measurement is turned on in GA4
- E-commerce setup in GA4 is separate from standard tracking
- Consult GA4 documentation for e-commerce setup
Connection expires
If you need to reconnect frequently:
- Google OAuth tokens expire after 6 months of inactivity
- Changing your Google password invalidates tokens
- Click Reconnect to refresh the authorization
- This is normal - just reconnect when prompted
Working with multiple properties
If you have multiple websites or apps:
Connect each property separately - Each GA4 property needs its own connection in ConvertMate. Property types:- Web properties: Standard websites
- App properties: Mobile apps (iOS/Android)
- Combined properties: Web + app data streams
Understanding GA4 data model
GA4 uses an event-based data model:
Events - All interactions are events (page views, clicks, purchases) Parameters - Events have parameters (page title, product ID) User properties - Attributes about users (location, device) Conversions - Key events marked as conversionsConvertMate agents understand this model and analyze events, not just sessions like old Universal Analytics.
Data sampling considerations
For high-traffic websites:
GA4 may sample data when you request large date ranges or complex queries. This means GA4 estimates rather than counts exact numbers. ConvertMate optimizes queries to minimize sampling by requesting smaller date ranges and combining results. If you see sampled data warnings, it means your property has very high traffic. The insights are still accurate but based on statistical samples.Privacy and permissions
